I grew up hearing my dad say, “They can’t pay you enough to do a job you hate. Choose something you love to do.” It’s that truth that sent me to teaching. I graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1982 and from William Penn College in 1985. After a year of substitute teaching, I started teaching at Cardinal Elementary school . I taught 3rd and 4th grade for 6 years. Then I moved to the middle school and found my “niche”. I taught in the middle school for the next 22 years. I have always spent time helping students reach their goals and wondering what great things they will go on in life to do, hoping every one of them get the opportunity to do in life what it is they are passionate about. This year, as an instructional coach, I get to work with teachers to further enhance their skills and abilities to engage students.
Tony and I have two children, Jerred and Chelsea. Both are graduates of Cardinal High School and are out on their own. While we miss having them at home with us, we are extremely proud of the adults they’ve become. I have two brothers, Kenny and CJ. I can’t imagine life without them - everyone should get to have brothers like mine. They both live close, so I get to see them often, and I’m getting to watch my nephews and my niece grow up.
