Cardinal CSD iJAG Specialist, Miss Heather

posted September 17, 2022

Heather McCallum-Maize is joining the Cardinal team as a specialist for Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) 11/12th grade. We hope you'll welcome her if you see her on campus. We asked her a few questions to help you get to know her as the school year begins.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?

I went to high school here and love the district/school. It's my home.

How long have you been teaching?
This is my first year.

What do you like about iJAG?

I get the opportunity to help kids navigate what the next step is after graduation and help them explore possible jobs/careers.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting to know the students and the amazing teachers and staff!

What is your ultimate goal?

I enrich the minds of my students to overcome their adversities and never give up on their dreams and themselves.

What do you hope students take away from your work this year?

What opportunities lay ahead of them after high school and how to achieve their career goals. How to be a great employee and how to navigate to apply and interview for jobs.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:

I am the second to the youngest of 12 kids, so we love fun chaos (only two brothers, the rest are girls) and I have two step brothers of 30 years! I have two big dogs inside and eight cats outside. I have four kids that have all attended or currently attend CCSD and I have my very first granddaughter on the way, due October 5.

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
