Eldon Mayor Proclaims May Mental Health Awareness Month at Cardinal CSD
posted April 30, 2021
For Mental Health Awareness Week (the first week of May), Cardinal Community School District has asked Eldon Mayor, Jerry Lee Potts, to visit their campus and sign a proclamation to make May Mental Health Awareness Month.
In addition to the ceremony, Cardinal has themed this year’s Mental Health Week as “Tools 2 Thrive,” giving students strategies to combat stress and take care of their mental states. Each day of the week will have a different theme promoting relaxation, brain breaks, supporting one another, and reducing mental health stigma.
“This week and the mayoral proclamation is important to remove the stigma and make it okay to not be okay,” Kathy Utterback, Area Education Agency Social Worker says.
Cardinal has made mental health a focus in the last few years, launching programs for staff members and students to offer support and resources for mental health care. The district’s programs are part of an overall Project Orange initiative that is based on the parable of The Orange Frog by Shawn Achor.
