2021 Successes for Cardinal CSD

We are so excited for all that is to come in 2022, but we also wanted to take a moment to reflect on all of our successes as a school district this past year. Take a walk back through 2021 with these great Cardinal moments.
January 2021
- We celebrated how our student administrative manager makes a major impact on our district
- The Cardinal Mental Health Program was featured in the Ottumwa Courier
February 2021
- We announced our new Project Orange program, implemented to increase positivity in our students
- Project Spark continued to bring a focus to our staff's health and happiness
- Our mentoring and induction program for new teachers saw success
- Mr. Pedersen went on air with KMCD to talk about the P.P.E.L. vote
March 2021
- The P.P.E.L. was extended with continued support from our patrons
- We partnered with HappyWork as a way to anonymously measure staff happiness and receive critical feedback from our team members
- The Iowa Department of Education revealed that our graduation rate is 5% higher than the state average
April 2021
- Our Happiness 360 program launched
- Beginning this month, students can now take their driver's instruction permit test on our campus
- We partnered with Gaggle to implement a student safety management tool for G Suite for Education
- Mrs. Buckley was a nominee for the 2021 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year award sponsored by the School Administrators of Iowa
- The Eldon Mayor proclaimed May Mental Health Awareness Month on our campus
May 2021
- Two Cardinal students win 1st and 2nd place in the Congressional Institute's annual art competition
- Our staff members made a thank you video for our Cardinal parents and guardians for their patience during the pandemic
- We joined the South Central Athletic & Academic Conference
June 2021
- To boost reading skills for our 2nd and 3rd grade students, we launched a new summer reading program
- A new Alumni Directory was added to our website
July 2021
- Cardinal was featured in innovationIOWA
August 2021
- We welcomed new teachers and staff members to our team!
September 2021
- Hank the Therapy Dog joined our staff
- We were named a Top Workplace for the third year in a row!
- The Cardinal Comets mobile app launched for iOS and Android
October 2021
- We announced that during the following school year, Cardinal students earned 1,393 college credits and saved $257,707 in college tuition by participating in concurrent enrollment
November 2021
- We partnered with Buena Vista University to offer employees and their family members educational benefits
- Nine Cardinal high school students took part in the American Mathematics Competition's national test
December 2021
- Our mental health programs continued to expand throughout 2021
We are so thankful to our Cardinal students, families, and staff for making all of this possible in 2021! Here's to even more achievements in 2022. Because we are Cardinal.
