Dear Cardinal Family,

The Cardinal CSD Board of Directors met in a special session this morning to discuss feedback received for how to make up missed days due to inclement weather. The feedback received from parents, students and staff helped the Board have a rich discussion about how to adjust the calendar.

74% of respondents to our survey preferred using “no school” Mondays to make up our missed days, and the Board agreed. The Board also commented that using the Mondays instead of adding the days to the end of the year would be more educationally beneficial for student achievement. The Board voted unanimously to use “no school” Mondays to make up missed days starting Monday, February 5. Once the “no school” Mondays are utilized, any more missed days will be added to the end of the calendar. There is one more “no school” Monday in May that could be used as a make-up day. There are 7 total days to be made up as of this letter.

The following days will now be student contact days: February 5; February 19; March 25; April 8; April 15 (changed from a flex day to a make-up day); April 22; May 13 (changed from a flex day to a make-up day).

Preschool will also make up these days with us — you are asked to contact Aimee Sivak or Dana Belzer at Cardinal Elementary with questions.

I appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you over the past three weeks as we recover from this 50-year snowfall! Your patience, understanding and support during this time have been comforting and reassuring. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

WE ARE CARDINAL.

Sincerely,

James Craig
Superintendent

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
