posted March 10, 2022
Cardinal Community School District has hired a new high school principal, Andrew Lehn. Mr. Lehn will start his new role in the 2022-2023 school year.
“I am extremely honored to join the Cardinal team and excited to meet staff, students and community members,” Mr. Lehn said.
Mr. Lehn is a 2008 graduate of Central College. After graduation, he accepted a teaching job in Grinnell, Iowa, as a 5th-8th middle school art teacher and coach. In 2012, he took a new role as a high school art teacher and football coach at Davenport West High School.
Two years later, Mr. Lehn earned his master’s in educational administration from Grand Canyon University. In the years following, he was a TLCS lead teacher, an instructional leader and a school administrative manager (SAM). He is currently an assistant principal at Ottumwa High School.
Mr. Lehn’s wife, Suzanne, will also be joining Cardinal’s staff as a family and consumer science teacher. Mrs.Lehn currently teaches at Evans Middle School in Ottumwa and previously taught at North Scott High School and Davenport North High School.
“I am excited to have Andrew and Suzanne join the Cardinal family,” Joel Pedersen, Cardinal superintendent said. “Andrew will be an instructional leader that moves Cardinal High School to the next level of student achievement.”
Mr. Pedersen and Mr. Lehn first met in 2017 at a weekend class through Viterbo where Mr. Pedersen was a guest speaker about culture and climate. Mr. Pedersen invited the class to tour Cardinal’s facilities and in the following weeks Mr. Lehn took him up on that offer.
“One of the things that stood out most from the tour was that everyone I met that day was welcoming and happy,” Mr. Lehn said. “I left thinking, ‘Who wouldn't want to be a part of that kind of culture?’”
Mr. Lehn is already thinking ahead about his goals as Cardinal High School’s new principal and how he plans to work with his team members.
“I will look to continue the great programs currently in place and will look to provide additional offerings for our students,” Mr. Lehn said. “ I look forward to working with the staff and emphasizing the importance of their collaboration to learn and grow through the expertise that already exists in the building.”
