Rylie Conway is joining the Cardinal team to teach 3rd grade. This is her first year of teaching after graduating from Central College with a degree in elementary education. Let’s make her feel welcome! We asked her some questions so you could get to know her a bit before the school year begins.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
I love the positive atmosphere of the school and how welcoming all of the students and staff are. I wanted to be a part of this amazing energy!

What do you like about 3rd grade?
I LOVE 3rd grade! I assistant taught in a 3rd grade classroom for three years in college and student taught in the same class for eight weeks, and I loved every second of it. Third graders love to learn, have a kind heart, and are able to be independent. I love working with them and making strong relationships.

What is your favorite part of teaching?
My favorite part of being a teacher is definitely the students. They are the main reason that I went into this profession. I love working with kids and being a guide for them as they continue to learn and grow. Having a strong relationship with all of my students is extremely important to me.

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
My ultimate goal as a teacher is to have an impact on my students and help prepare them for life. School is a place where students can learn about different subjects and essential social-emotional skills. I hope my students feel safe in my classroom and are able to learn skills that will help them as they grow and experience different situations.

What do you hope students take away from your class this year?
I hope my students take away that learning can be fun. I understand that school is not every student's favorite thing, but I hope that I can engage the students in their learning. The lessons that I will plan will help the students find their passion.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
I grew up in the small town of Center Point, Iowa. While studying at Central College, I studied abroad in Spain and Mexico — I have a passion for traveling! I love to go hiking outside at different state or national parks. When I have free time, I also love to visit different coffee shops and read a new book. A fun fact about me is that I taught myself how to juggle, and I can sing the alphabet backward!

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
