We are pleased to welcome Kyrie McDonald to our Cardinal team this year. She has 10 years of experience teaching, and we look forward to working and learning alongside her. We’ve asked her some questions so you can get to know her a bit.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
I have heard great things about Cardinal and am looking forward to starting the Computer Science program.

What do you like about teaching computer science and math?
I love the logical thinking involved in both math and computer science. I also enjoy exploring multiple thinking strategies used to solve problems.

What is your favorite part of teaching?
I love how each day is different and seeing students gain confidence throughout the year. I also love to laugh, and teaching brings some great moments!

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
Ultimately, I want students to leave my classroom with the belief that they can learn and be successful. I hope to inspire students to step out of their comfort zones and try something new, and I hope to encourage each student to believe in themselves.

What do you hope students take away from your class this year?
I hope students leave with more knowledge than they entered with and are more confident in their abilities. I hope they aspire to work hard towards meeting their goals.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
I am an outdoor enthusiast and love to be active. I love to run and try challenging workouts. I could eat pasta every day and never tire of it. I live in Ottumwa and will marry next fall 2022 to an incredible man who shares the same love of pasta and the outdoors as I do!

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
