We are thrilled for John Torres to step into a new role on the Cardinal team this year. He was a full-time substitute last year and this is his first year as an iJAG educational specialist. Mr. Torres is also a football coach and our youth football coordinator. We’ve asked him some questions so you can get to know him better.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
I like that it is a small school and it gives me the chance to get to know a lot of the students on a first-name basis. I also like the atmosphere around Cardinal and what they bring to the staff as well as the students.

What do you like about teaching iJAG?
I like that I am able to help juniors and seniors figure out what they would like to do after school, whether that is going to college or joining the workforce. I also like that I get the chance to help them build different skills that can relate to jobs or skills they will use later in life.

What is your favorite part of teaching?
My favorite part of the job is being able to communicate and get to know the students. Each student brings something different to the table and they are unique in their own way.

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
My ultimate goal as a teacher is seeing students down the road and watching them be successful.

What do you hope students take away from your work this year?
I hope that they are able to identify their strengths and set goals for their future.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
My wife, Taylor, and I are going on our second year of marriage and she is a 3rd grade teacher at Cardinal as well. I like watching sports and am an avid Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls fan.

My real endorsement of Cardinal Schools and its faculty and staff can be seen each morning when I hand them the one irreplaceable and most valuable thing in my life: my kids. No letter I write could be a greater endorsement than that simple act. I give them my kids, and I do it with a huge smile on my face because I trust them to do what they are most outstanding at: building our future.
