Superintendent's Vlog Special Edition: Student Attendance
posted August 20, 2024
Earlier this year, the SF2435 Chronic Absenteeism bill was passed, which affects district attendance policies. The bill defines chronic absenteeism as missing 10% of the days or hours in a grading period. Cardinal will measure abscenses in days meaning chronic absenteeism for each semester would be:
- 1st Semester (69 days): 10% = 7 days
- 2nd Semester (81 days): 10% = 8 days
State law now defines truancy as being absent for 20% of a grading period, which would be:
- 1st Semester (69 days): 20% = 14 days
- 2nd Semester (81 days): 20% = 16 days
Please report absences to your child's attendance center office by 9:00 am on the day of the absence.
Watch Mr. Craig's latest vlog for full details, including what special circumstances are still considered present and which are absent-excused and absent-unexcused.
