Kim Schwartz, our Indian Hills Community College TRiO Talent Search Program Tutor Coordinator/Success Coach, has been hard at work supporting secondary students as they get closer to graduation.
In her role, Mrs. Schwartz works with Cardinal Middle and High School (and Evans Middle School) students enrolled in the Education Talent Search (ETS) program, providing students with the skills needed to graduate and enroll in a secondary education program.
Students in the program participate in workshops tailored for each age level that promote academic success and future planning.
“Topics for middle school focus on academic success with organization, time management, etc.,” Mrs. Schwartz explains. “Topics for high school students range from understanding GPA for underclassmen to financial aid, scholarship information, and assistance with applications for upperclassmen.”
The program is open to students in 6th through 12th grade and is free for those who are accepted. It is primarily for students from disadvantaged families (families in which neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree); two-thirds of students must fit that requirement. The other third of participants can be students of any background.
“I enjoy providing cultural opportunities that students may not have without the program: information on career ideas, information, and assistance in applying to colleges, and if needed, direction to those searching for their next step after high school,” Mrs. Schwartz says.
Ready to prep for the future after Cardinal? Interested students can stop by Mrs. Schwartz’s office for an application or find the applications online on the Indian Hills Community College website.
