Thank You Note
I want to thank Jenna for her hard work and dedication to Cardinal schools! She always goes above and beyond to help both students and staff members when needed! She often works a lot of overtime to ensure that the schools are both clean and safe for everyone. She is such a great asset to Cardinals schools, and her commitment to her job does not go unnoticed!

Person to Thank
Sammy Flick
Thank You Note
Thank you to Sammy Flick for her attitude of belief and can do in the level of support she provided to help a child(ren) use assistive technology, i.e., an iPad based speech device in her 1st grade classroom! As an Assistive Technology (AT) specialist for Great Prairie AEA, it isn't all that often that I get to work with General Education Educators who are on the front lines of introducing AT. However, in this case, the evidence base is strong that the type of AT needing to be introduced, Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) is best learned by a child when used by adults (& even peers) to model use in meaningful activities. This can feel intimidating! However, Sammy refused to let intimidation of the technology and AAC be that barrier to a student's successful communication. Rather she linked arms with the Speech-Pathologist, Christine Riegal and Assistant, Andrea Wanner as she jumped in with both feet, with a child-like heart and embraced learning, showing and sharing the communication app with all her students. Sammy identified natural opportunities like math groups, writing lessons, show & share and social interactions to show these young learners how cool and beneficial the communication app & AAC could be for all of them. These actions for ALL helped build the confidence and interest for the one little Cardinal learner who needed the communication app the most. Sammy, the modeling of AAC you provided in the general education classroom in all kinds of academic and daily routines has been BRILLIANT! I don't know that we can quantify all the positive ways in which you will have impacted this student to be a successful learner by demystifying use of AAC for the others, BUT, when I reflect on how you did this over the course of several weeks AND the resulting outcome of a young student who can proudly use an iPad based speech device to successfully communicate, I think of the treasure in heaven awaiting you! You are a GOLD STAR educator! Thank you x 100!
