Building Accessibility Updates
On October 11, 2023, Cardinal Community School District (CSD) was notified through CASA of corrective actions assigned for District accessibility issues. This written plan will identify how programs and services in the pre-1977 portions of the high school and middle school are made available to students, staff, parents, and community members with disabilities.
Additional van accessible parking stalls were required as a corrective action. Cardinal CSD (The District) has added one accessible parking stall to the south parking lot. The District has added one accessible parking stall to the north parking lot. Signage has been installed to identify van accessible parking stalls.
The second corrective action addressed lack of signage displaying international symbol of accessibility at the accessible loading zone at the middle school and high school. Additional signage has been installed to meet the required criteria.
The third corrective action addressed middle school and high school restrooms needing accessibility updates as follows:
- Hot water pipes and drain pipes under sinks insulated or configured to avoid contact with the legs of a person using a wheelchair;
- All restrooms needing the appropriate amount of grab bars in the accessible stalls;
- All restrooms identified by signage for accessible restrooms on the latch side of the door and 60 inches above the floor.
The District has installed insulation, grab bars and signage to meet code requirements.
The fourth corrective action addressed appropriate accessibility signage on locker rooms. Middle school locker rooms are accessible shower rooms and need to be identified by international symbol of accessibility signs with braille, on the latch side of the door 60 inches above the floor. High school locker rooms are not accessible and need appropriate signage with an arrow pointing to the accessible middle school locker rooms. Signage has been installed according to code requirements listed in the corrective action.
The final corrective action required the District to lower main entrance door buzzer/camera unit for accessibility. The District has lowered the main entrance door buzzer/camera unit according to directions of the corrective action.
